Safeguarding
Built for children’s safety first.
Guardians decide what is shared, and names stay private.
Our principles
Children first, in every decision.
-
Guardians in charge
A parent or guardian holds a dancer’s profile until they turn 16. Studios invite; guardians claim.
-
Consent once a season
Guardians sign consent and the waiver once, on their own phone, for every event that season.
-
Media by permission
Guardians choose who may see photos and video of their dancer, and can change it at any time.
-
Names kept private
Public results show a dancer’s first name or initials by default, not their full name.
-
Only what’s needed
We ask for what a competition needs to run, and keep it no longer than it’s needed.
-
Someone to tell
Anyone can raise a concern with us at any time, about anything they see.
Consent
Claimed by a guardian.
Signed once a season.
Studios send a link. Guardians claim, sign and set media permissions on their own phone.
Results
Proud results.
Private names.
Public results show a dancer’s first name and initial by default. Scores and critiques go to the family and the studio.
- First name and initial on public results, by default
- Age divisions such as Mini or Junior, never a date of birth
- Critiques kept in the dancer’s profile, for their family
Data handling
Handled with care.
Designed to the law.
We design DanceKomp Genius to the UK GDPR and the ICO’s Age Appropriate Design Code.
-
UK GDPR at the core
A clear reason for everything we hold, the least we need to run a competition, and nothing kept longer than needed.
-
The Children’s Code
The ICO’s Age Appropriate Design Code sets our defaults: privacy high from the start, and no nudges to share more.
-
Each role sees its part
Judges see routine numbers and titles, not studios or families. Studios see their own dancers only.
-
Yours to see and take
Guardians can see what we hold about their dancer, ask for a copy, or ask us to delete it.
-
Nothing to phish
Every Genius ID signs in with a passkey or an emailed code. There are no passwords to steal.
-
Ages, not birthdays
Public screens show age divisions such as Mini or Junior. Dates of birth stay private.
These are the standards we design to. They are not a certification or an accreditation.

A safer day for every dancer.
